Biography


I was raised in rural Pennsylvania and later lived in Vermont, Washington, Massachusetts, and Oregon.

My father is an artist and my mother taught first grade for many years until she became a librarian. My two brothers are an architect and a musician.

From age 12-20, I worked as a waitress, short order cook, and dish washer while going to school.

 

Education:

I worked as a librarian from 1984-1995 and as a researcher in aging studies from 1996-present.   In 2000, I went to a dance at the Casino and fell in love with Gulfport. I bought my home two months later. Two years later, I fell in love again at the Casino, this time with my husband Don.  We adopted Michael from birth in 2005. Don and I work from home in research & software development.  He is an avid organic gardener and musician.

 Committed to Gulfport

Started Gulfport Progressives in 2005 & we helped pass the human rights ordinance.

Conducted Gulfport Communities for a Lifetime focus groups in 2006.

Served on the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee in 2007.

Designed Keep Gulfport Great budget survey in 2009.

Volunteered 100+ hours at Gulfport Elementary School in 2010-11.

Ran unopposed for City Council in 2010.

 Current volunteer activities in addition to City Council:

 Member, Area 1 Crime Awareness Group.

Gulfport Sea Scouts board member.

PTA member and volunteer at Jamerson Elementary School one day a week.

Coordinate Clothes to Kids semi-annual clothing drive at Jamerson.

Volunteer with Gulfport Growing Greener events.

 

Vote March 13, 2012 or by mail to re-elect Jennifer Salmon Gulfport City Council Ward 3.
